Hi - My name is Annette Roennow and since 1994 I have made 3-dimensionals with the art of knitting using basic knitting technique. I thoroughly enjoy exercising this wonderful craft, because it offers such indescribable tranquility.

It all began when I wanted to create some small dolls for my granddaughter. To sew small dolls seemed almost impossible because of the seams that were always in the way and too bulky to work with. Therefore, I resorted to knitting with double point needles. The first ones I made were like 'critters' and merely tube-type dolls. When I looked around, I saw many doll patterns like that, so I decided to implement sculpturing in the knitting itself to make the dolls more realistic and to create something special to share with others.

On the suggestion of my daughter-in-law, I started to make bigger dolls to expand my knitting skills and present a larger challenge. There is no feeling of joy which compares with finishing a knitted 3-dimensional toy.

About the Names of the Dolls
The name Dollettes-n-Things was picked by my husband in 1994 when I first started knitting tiny creatures. At that time, the dolls needed "things" to sit on or "things" to sleep in and the like. I have always liked to make small things out of wood or plastic or whatever I could find. The name of the business has had a greater influence recently. We are now creating the 'ettes' on most of the new objects. At first we used the 'ing' as a suffix for everything else, but it got out of hand, so names or categories have replaced the 'ings' suffix.

Last Words
It is unfortunate that 'quick and easy' crafts are the trend. No matter how good you are, finishing a knitting project cannot be done quickly. However, you can always create something quite unique which cannot be purchased anywhere and it is made in your country instead of being imported.

To keep knitting alive has now become the main interest in my life. It is vitally important that this particular craft stays with us. If you are a knitter or own a business related to knitting or crocheting, I hope you give your expertise to a friend or family member.

Happy Knitting!
Annette

The painting above is by Michael Ancher, a Scandinavian painter belonging to a group called "Skagensmalerne", who brought the Northern light to their paintings during the last part of the 19th. century and the start of the 20th. The group of painters lived in Skagen, which is the most northern part of Denmark. The little photograph is a picture of me on a beach in Maine - it's presented to depict the difference between the real world and a world to retain. When you knit, you enter the world of Michael Ancher!
